The Child Advocacy Project focuses on creating awareness of child rights in the community and providing training to government representatives about the issues that children face. The project has proved to be a success in the Islands with widespread community and government support. Six children and adult groups, representing over 20,000 children have been established. Another success indicator of the project is the inclusion of child rights materials in the national primary educational curriculum.
In the past year we helped children to form Children’s Clubs around Honiara and in Western province for promoting child participation. A total of 60 child clubs with over 1000 boys and girls as members have been created.
To support this initiative 60 Child Development Committees comprised of parents, teachers and community leaders have also been established.
