Vanuatu is an archipelago of 83 islands located in the South Pacific Ocean, some 1,750km east of Australia. Its economy is based on small-scale agriculture, which provides a living for 65% of the population.

Save the Children Australia has worked in Vanuatu since 1984 and has projects in all six provinces of Vanuatu: Penama, Malampa, Tafea, Shefa, Torba and Sanma.

 

Our Programs in Vanuatu:

  • Child rights project
    Promoting and supporting childs' rights through raising awareness through training teachers, the government and the wider community..

  • Strengthening village health worker & community based management project
    Making accessible quality sustainable health services in rural areas.

  • Child protection project
    The Child Protection project aims to reduce the likelihood of violence against children by strengthening local organisations to coordinate and facilitate greater family, community and political responsibility for child protection.

  • HIV and AIDS project
    This project uses education and awareness to encourage communities to support people with HIV and AIDS, and to assist children who have lost relatives to the disease.

  • Youth out-reach project
    Meeting the considerable challenge in meeting the health, education and other social development needs of Vanuatu's young people.

  • Village health worker project
    Improving access to health care services, and developing health management systems at provincial and community levels.
