The National Times hosted by The Age and Sydney Morning Herald published my latest oped on how media and ngos work in humanitarian emergencies.

The article received one negative comment, which you can read online.  A commentator was critical because I did not name the child in the original photograph that ran with the article.   It would have been a fair cop if I’d published the photograph – instead it was chosen by the editorial staff at The National Times.

That said, I should have checked to ensure the photograph helped to convey my argument  – that putting a name to a face helps humanize people affected by disaster.

I spoke to The National Times, and they agreed without hesitation to change the photo.
