Devastation after the 2004 boxing day Tsunami

 

The earthquake that triggered the Indian Ocean tsunamis on 26 December 2004 was the world's largest natural disaster in the last 40 years. It led to over 200,000 people killed or missing and assumed dead. Fourteen countries were affected.

The Save the Children Alliance response to the tsunami also was the largest in its 90-year history. Worldwide the Alliance raised in excess of $284 million USD, and concentrated its efforts in the three hardest hit countries of Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India, with assistance also provided in Thailand, and Somalia.
