Health and education is important in Laos
Salika lives with her family in a rural town in Laos, approximately 40km from the border with Thailand. She is 11 years old, however she has only recently completed Grade Two. This is very common in rural areas of Laos where up to 36 per cent of children do not attend primary school at all. Salika faces many other challenges as a child growing up in Laos. Laos is one of the poorest countries in South East Asia and 80% of the population still lives in rural areas with little access to health care and education.
