• Save the Children runs over 80 early learning programs, mostly playschemes, in communities across Australia. Playschemes are like a playgroup but with structured activities and trained staff.
• Children up to the age of five come to a weekly session with their parents where they take part in structured activities like singing, reading and having a healthy snack together.
• Qualified early childhood workers and teachers provide educational activities to help children prepare for the all-important transition to kindergarten and school.
• Family support workers also work at many of the playschemes providing families with advice, skills and links to vital support services.
• Many of our playschemes are mobile - this means we take the playschemes out to areas that are socially or geographically isolated where children may otherwise miss out on an early education.
