Jack lives in a small weatherboard home with his parents and six brothers and sisters in Honiara, in the Solomon Islands. Jack is a bright young boy who cares a great deal about his family, friends and his community and is especially passionate about learning.

Unfortunately, in the Solomon Islands access to primary and secondary education is limited compared to other Pacific countries. Many children also drop out of school and this often starts the cycle of poor education, poverty and unemployment that many young people face in the Solomon Islands today.

How we help children like Jack

Luckily, Jack is able to attend a Save the Children-supported school.

He is also part of the Baranaba's Save the Children supported Child Club - which aims to empower children to become active, positive members of their community. The Club brings together children in the town to learn about their rights through fun activities such as dance, role playing and games.

"I liked the media training and learning about how I can talk about issues that matter to me," says Jack.

Thanks to our supporters, Save the Children has more than 50 Child Clubs in the Solomon Islands.
