Myanmar is one of the poorest countries in Asia, 26% of the population living below poverty.
Our CEO, Paul Ronalds, Chairman Peter Hodgson and Directory of Policy and Public Affairs, Mat Tinkler are currently leading a delegation of Australian Members of Parliament in Myanmar as part of The Australian Aid and Parliament Project; a program made possible by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The aim of the project is to showcase the effectiveness, benefits and positive impacts of the Australian Aid Program through a first-hand experience for Members of Parliament with a particular focus on the importance of investment in maternal and child health, gender equality, livelihoods, education and health. The delegation are experiencing programs that demonstrate how Australian International Non-Government Organisations are partnering and collaborating to respond to development issues in new ways, creating lasting and sustainable change.
Check out this short video of Mat Tinkler at one of our Save the Children DFAT Funded programs in an Internally Displaced Persons camp in Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine State in Myanmar.
