The situation in Nepal is challenging, with severe damage caused by the catastrophic flash flood that swept through Timure, Rasuwagadhi and Syabrubesi in Rasuwa in Northern Nepal. With roads blocked and some areas only accessible by helicopter, bringing essential supplies to families continues to be a priority.
Along with the massive displacement, some children have been separated from their parents and are now staying in different holding centres. This exposes them to trauma, injury, exploitation, and other protection risks.
Our team is seeing so much devastation, and the needs are only likely to grow. With help from supporters, we are:
-
Distributing essential items to children and families including baby kits and hygiene kits and other critical life-saving assistance.
-
Providing clean drinking water to affected families and
-
Working with local authorities to reunite separated children with their families.
As fears rise amid the risk of new flooding, we've stocked six warehouses with pre-positioned life-saving non-food items, with capacity to support up to 10,000 families during a mega-disaster.
We know from experience responding to other disasters in Nepal that a crisis like this has immediate and long-term implications for children and vulnerable households.
