Knowing you have a safe place to go can be the one thing that makes all the difference to a woman leaving domestic or family violence, especially if she has children. Through our women's refuge program we provide safe accommodation, transitional housing and community outreach services in Queensland for women & children who have fled domestic and family violence. Save The Children has been operating Domestic and Family Violence Refuges in Queensland for over 30 years. We are one of Australia's largest aid and development organisations and we are the leading child rights organisation in Australia. Our vision is a world in which every child lives, learns and is safe from harm. We run programs here in Australia and around the world for children and their families such as the women's refuge program. And when a crisis occurs, we also provide immediate life-saving aid, rapidly responding to save children's lives. How our women's refuge charity helps women and children
We have seven refuges through our women's refuge charity that are all set in confidential locations throughout Queensland, designed to ensure women & children feel safe, secure and supported (pets are also accommodated at all our refuges too). In addition to safe accommodation we also provide the following support to women & children through our women's refuge program:
- Support from family specialists who help to create support plans for each member of the family, guided by their individual needs & feedback to help them plan for the next steps on their journey
- Child support specialists who work with children to ensure their voices and experiences of violence are heard, acknowledged, and supported
- Enabling opportunities for children to continue their education
- Domestic Violence Specialists who provide emotional and practical support to families, including help with safety & wellbeing, housing, parenting & child development, education & employment, legal assistance and advocacy with other services
Where to make women's refuge donations
Every person has the right to live in a safe environment, free from violence. To make women's refuge donations this can be done as a single donation right now or you can become a monthly giver. 80% of your donation goes directly towards our women's refuge program and donations over $2 are tax deductible.
