Pacific Programs

Save the Children Australia works closely with our neighbours in the Pacific to deliver critical healthcare, education and child protection programs for vulnerable children and families. We collaborate with governments, local partners and communities in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Tonga and Vanuatu to ensure that our services can reach children in even the most remote communities. What follows is a collection of some of the programs provided across the Pacific that are supported by Save the Children Australia.

Promoting resilience across the Pacific

Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) pioneered for disaster recovery

CVA used to help Fijian families recover from COVID-19

20% of Fijian population received CVA over 4 months

Improving food availability and nutrition in the Solomon Islands

Partnered with Solomon Island’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, with the support of the Australian Government

Provided vegetable seeds to improve food availability and nutrition

Donated water tanks to improve access to clean water

Green Climate Fund: Adapting to the impacts of climate change

Developed projects with Pacific governments for community-based climate adaptation

Six project concepts and one full proposal were formally submitted to the GCF

One large-scale climate project will work with over 190,000 people in Solomon Islands

Corporate Partnerships: Keeping Pacific kids safe online

Partnered with Meta to deliver digital literacy and safety initiative in the Pacific

International Programs

With the incredible help of our community of donors and supporters, including the Australian Government, philanthropic foundations and individual donors, Save the Children Australia supports communities in some of the most isolated, remote and challenging environments on earth. In 2021 the services and programs that we delivered overseas directly reached and improved the lives of children, families, and communities from Cambodia to Iraq.
