Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities is a partnership between Save the Children Australia and the Mondelez International Foundation, with both organisations striving to empower families and communities to lead healthier lives.
In Australia, the partnership focuses on instilling lifelong healthy behaviours and the ability to make smart nutritional choices in children and families.
"Despite Australia's high standard of living, thousands of children struggle to reach their full potential because they don't have equal access to quality education, including nutrition education, basic health and other support services," Save the Children head of corporate partnerships JP Zwinkels said.
"Through Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities we aim to build people's understanding of the importance of eating healthy, active play and growing fresh food. This will empower parents to positively influence their children and others in the community, so every child has the best start to life."
Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities will be rigorously evaluated, to ensure that it improves the lifestyle of participants by enhancing nutrition knowledge, providing more opportunities for active play and increasing access to nutritious food. The metrics measure improvements in nutrition education, physical activity and access to nutritious foods, including fresh fruits and vegetables.
"Since 2012, our partners and their programs have been transforming the lives of more than a million children around the globe by increasing their nutrition knowledge, physical activity and access to fresh fruits and vegetables," Mondelez International Area Vice President Australia and New Zealand Mrs. Amanda Banfield said.
"Mondelez International is committed to investing in the communities where we live and work. Partnering with Save the Children through Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities means we can make a real impact by educating Australian children to make healthy habits early in life.
"We are proud to partner with Save the Children to give Australian families every opportunity to reach their full potential."
