Better farming for better futures

01 September 2025, Impact of Our Work

Welcome to Tintin’s sustainable egg farm

In the province of Quezon in the Philippines, a bubbly young girl proudly shows off her family’s egg farm. Still wearing her school uniform, 10-year-old Tintin is excitedly running around the farm flaunting the new chicken coop where her family keeps their hens, including her favourite pet Tenny.

Hear from Tintin here:

Tintin explains how the farm’s old chicken coop used to be cramped and small, where the hens couldn’t lay enough eggs.

Now through Save the Children’s Safe Lair project, supported by the Australian government, we’ve provided bigger coops with protective nets to keep away the wild animals.

Support for a sustainable future

Through the Safe Lair project, small egg farmers in the Philippines are being supported to overcome rising feed costs, extreme weather, and to gain better market access.

We are providing farmers with:

  • Laying and native chickens
  • Training to build smarter, climate-resilient coops
  • Support to employ sustainable farming methods
  • Guidance for selling and cooking with the eggs
  • Training in running a small business.

Farmers are earning more, communities are strengthening their egg supply, and most importantly, more children are getting the nutrition and stability they need to thrive.

It’s not just about better farming – it’s about providing better futures for children and families

This project was supported by the Australian government through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP).
