Leaving a Legacy

05 August 2025, Impact of Our Work

Remembering loved ones through a gift in your Will

Every gift in a Will to Save the Children tells a story of hope.  Some wish to extend the love they have for their own children to those who need it most. Others want to leave the world a fairer and brighter place. Some see it as a way to continue a lifetime of kindness, ensuring that children everywhere can dream, grow, and thrive.

Though our supporters’ reasons are many, they all share a belief in one powerful idea: that every child deserves a better future. Supporters Gwen and Terry shared their motivation and inspiration behind their gift to Save the Children, as a way to continue the legacy of their loved ones.

A sister’s love carried forward

Gwen has left a gift in her Will to Save the Children to continue her three decades of support into the future.

It was through her sister Laurel, a passionate supporter, that Gwen learned about the work of Save the Children. Laurel, a mother of four, was always very active knitting baby clothes and making cakes and handicrafts to sell at their local Save the Children op shop.

Laurel was always inspiring others to give what they could. The sisters even doorknocked together to collect money and raise awareness about the needs of children and Gwen was dismayed by some people’s indifference.

When Laurel sadly passed away, Gwen promised to always continue their support, and to this day she loves visiting Save the Children op shops and gives what she can. Now aged 98, Gwen has supported Save the Children for more than 30 years.

Reflecting on her own fortunate childhood, Gwen said that she and her siblings “were loved and had food, and that everyone deserves to be supported.”

Gwen also let us know that she has left a gift in her Will sharing, “The gift in my Will can help  to continue the support I have given into the future."

A Letter of Hope

Terry's gift in his Will is a loving expression of his love for his wife Trisha, who adored children.

The gift in Terry's will to Save the Children is a heartfelt extension of the love he shared with his wife, Trisha - now sadly passed away. Together, they supported children in place of the much wished for family they couldn’t have. Terry recounted “the love in Trisha’s eyes and her joy at having children by proxy through Save the Children."

Terry’s gift is a love letter to his darling Trisha who adored children, and a promise of hope and transformation for children who need it most.
