Our work around the world
Save the Children Australia works with girls, boys and their families in 20 countries across South-East and South-Central Asia, Middle East, Africa and the Pacific region – including Australia – to save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.
Our global strategy aims to reach three bold goals:
Survive – No child dies from preventable causes before their fifth birthday.
Learn – All children learn from a quality basic education.
Be protected – Violence against children is no longer tolerated.
To achieve these outcomes, we deliver evidence-based programs that reach children, families and communities. These programs focus on health, education and protecting children.
We aim to reach girls and boys caught up in humanitarian emergencies, and make children more resilient to climate change and disasters.
We prioritise those who are the most marginalised – girls and women, children with disabilities, refugees and those persecuted because of their religion, sexuality, socio-economic status or ethnicity.
We lead on child-focused approaches to development around the world, and invest in local and innovative solutions that put children and their families first.
We plan for the future
We work with local communities, community groups, governments, national organisations and international NGOs to strengthen systems that support children, and change policies that affect their lives. Involving local change-makers helps make our work more sustainable because we know it will continue after we’re gone.
From remote villages to dense urban settings, we want to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. At the core of all our work are the rights of a child to survival, protection, development and participation.
