Regift your Christmas presents – to us!

20 January 2023, Action for Change

Your unwanted gifts could be someone else’s treasure

Phew, Christmas is finally over. And while we hope it was a lot of fun, maybe there were a few presents that didn’t quite hit the mark for you.

Instead of throwing your presents away and contributing to landfill, consider donating them to a Save the Children Op Shop. We can take your unwanted Christmas gifts to sell in our shops, which fund our life-saving programs for kids.

If you received clothes, toys, books, furniture or homewares that you don’t want - you can be sure that someone out there does!

Check out our guide if you are unsure whether your items can be donated. While not all items are suitable to be sold in our Op Shops,  you can donate to our recycling partner UPPAREL which re-uses as many materials as possible to make new things like socks, handbags, blankets, even basketball courts and playground equipment!

How to donate safely during COVID-19

To help limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community, before you use any purchased items you may wish to also:
  • Wash any clothing, manchester and soft furnishings

  • Clean children's toys with disinfectant solution

  • Wipe down shoes, accessories, handbags, books and homewares with disinfectant solution

  • Clean/wipe down furniture with disinfectant solution

  • Clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water after handling second-hand goods

Generous, guilt-free regifting

As well as making the day of another shopper, your generous gift means we can continue our work to support children through important programs that keep kids healthy, educated and safe in Australia and around the world.

Money raised from sales at Save the Children Op Shops supports nutrition screening and immunisation programs, education programs that keep kids in school, and programs that build the resilience of communities to the impact of disasters.

Where can you donate?

Save the Children Op Shops are located in convenient locations across the country and are staffed by our amazing volunteers.

You can donate your goods during the opening hours of any op shop. Simply hand over to a staff member or pop them in the donation bin near the front of the store.

Start your new year off right by using your unwanted Christmas gifts to support children to have a happier and healthier year.

Stay up to date on how Save the Children is creating a world where every child has a safe and happy childhood
