With political instability and parts of Laos being destroyed by natural disasters, many children in Laos do not have access to basic healthcare & education and are also at risk of violence, abuse and being exploited through child labour and trafficking. As a charity working in Laos, we help children we are doing everything we can to ensure children in Laos have what they need to survive, thrive and be safe. What We Do As A Charity In Laos
Healthcare
Many children and women in South East Asia, including Laos, do not have access to basic healthcare because of where they live or because of the ethnic group they belong to. With children under five and pregnant mothers among the most at-risk of preventable disease & health complications during pregnancy and birth (especially those from ethnic minority communities), we are helping to provide access to healthcare & equip health centres. We also provide pre- and post-natal care, and birthing support and also train health workers to help improve health knowledge & family care practices.
Education
Because we strongly believe that every child should have access to education so they have the opportunity to reach their full potential, we provide education and safe learning spaces to children across Laos including in remote communities. We are also working to improve school safety during natural disasters so children can be safe and continue their education regardless of what happens. We also train teachers in Laos to use more effective practices that better engage their students.
Protection
We help protect children in Loas that are at risk of violence, abuse, being forced into child marriages and child trafficking & labour - which we know can be exacerbated during disasters and in at-risk areas.
Emergency Response
When natural disasters occur in Laos, our emergency response programs provide immediate life-saving aid & essentials and safe places for children to play & learn. Ongoing, we provide psychosocial support to help children recover from the traumatic events they have experienced and help to reunite families that have been separated.
