With the recent global pandemic, we all know now how crucial hand washing & hygiene is to prevent the spread of disease. When a disaster occurs, often hygiene facilities are damaged or destroyed making disease rampant and spreading quickly and easily. A hygiene charity helps to ensure victims caught up in a crisis or disaster have access to hygiene facilities or supplies to help stop the spread of disease and preventable deaths.
Below is more about the work we do, not only as a hygiene charity that responds in emergencies but also as a hygiene poverty charity that focuses on the ongoing health & well-being of children around the world.
Save The Children is Australia’s leading child rights organisation. We believe every child deserves a bright future and for over 100 years we have been championing children’s rights. Our vision is a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation. We provide emergency aid to children and their families when a crisis occurs and we run programs in communities around the world that focus on enabling children to have a safe, healthy & happy childhood with the opportunity to reach their full potential. One of our key focus areas is hygiene - here is more about what we do as a hygiene charity:
Hygiene Charity Emergency Response Aid
When a disaster happens we know that children are most vulnerable, especially when it comes to the spread of disease. When a crisis strikes, as a hygiene charity that focuses on children and their families, we work quickly to enable access to clean water, adequate sanitation and proper hygiene through the following aid:
-
Providing handwashing stations
-
Building sanitation facilities
-
Repairing water supplies
-
Educating children and their families on how to wash their hands properly
-
Trucking clean water to families and communities
-
Distributing sanitation & hygiene kits
Our Work As A Hygiene Poverty Charity
Children born into poverty are more susceptible to disease. Without access to necessities and poor nutrition & hygiene, the risk of disease is extremely high, and for children already suffering from malnutrition, a disease can be deadly. Many diseases in poverty-stricken areas also cause diarrhea which is the world’s second leading cause of death for children under the age of five.
As a hygiene poverty charity, we have staff located across the globe, working hard to improve hygiene in poverty-stricken areas. We are teaching children how to wash their hands and working with schools to improve their water, sanitation & hygiene facilities and practices. We deliver evidence-based programs to educate families and communities on the importance of hygiene & hygiene practices and also help to provide access to clean water and hygiene facilities.
