Op shops open up

22 June 2020, Retail

New measures in place so you can shop safely again

Melinda Bator can’t wait to get back to work. As one of the volunteer sales assistants in the Save the Children Marrickville op shop, it’s been weeks since she’s helped customers with their purchases. “I’ve missed heading into the Marrickville store and seeing the friendly faces of colleagues and community members,” she says.

Knowing that we can again be part of that community fabric again, supporting people to shop sustainably and locally and contribute to funding the work Save the Children does in protecting children, is an amazing feeling.

Along with the Marrickville store, we are re-opening many of our other op shops around the country.

“Some of our stores have re-opened while others remain closed as we work to align with all government and health precautions necessary to ensure the safety of our customers, volunteers and staff,” says Head of Retail Wayne Edis.

We can’t wait to see our volunteers and customers back in store to shop, connect and raise the vital funds we need to keep our Australian and international work going.

Safety first

Save the Children op shops will have additional safety precautions in place to protect the health of our customers and volunteers.

For customers these include restricted numbers of people in store, social distancing requirements of 1.5 metres between people and contactless payment (where feasible).

Our volunteers will be undertaking increased cleaning of stores, have new personal hygiene guidelines, and have personal protective equipment (PPE) available to them. We will continue to monitor our safety precautions and adapt them as needed.

We can’t wait to welcome you back into stores as well as your high-quality donated goods. Your generous donations help us support children to get an education, get the healthcare they need, and stay protected from abuse and harm. Come and say hello!
