How your donation helps communities, not just one child

When you donate to Save the Children, you’re joining a global community dedicated to creating change that lasts

When you donate to Save the Children, your impact reaches far beyond one child. Through our community impact charity model, your support helps strengthen entire communities, improving access to education, healthcare, protection, and livelihoods so every child can grow up safe and supported.

Why Save the Children doesn’t do child sponsorship

You might wonder why we have chosen a child sponsorship alternative rather than the traditional approach. The reason is simple: children don’t live or thrive in isolation. A school, a clinic, a safe home – these are not benefits one child can access alone.

Our programs are designed to lift entire communities, tackling the root causes of inequality and creating systems that help all children survive, learn and stay safe. This community impact charity model means that your donation contributes to projects that reach many children, not just one. It ensures that every child in a community has the chance to go to school, access healthcare, and grow up protected from harm.

How your donation creates community-wide impact

When you donate to Save the Children, you support children without sponsorship by helping their families, teachers, and communities build environments where they can thrive. In 2024 alone, the global Save the Children movement reached 356 million people worldwide, of which 113 million were children. So the impact extends far beyond the individual.

Together, we improved access to education, health and protection, and helped communities recover from emergencies and adapt to a changing climate. From early childhood learning programs like Play2Learn+ in Tasmania to nutrition and resilience programs in Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea, your donation helps us work side-by-side with families and local leaders to strengthen systems that will support entire communities for generations.

Impact by the numbers: where your money goes

Support for Save the Children directly fuels programs that create measurable, lasting outcomes across multiple sectors:

  • Education: 9 million people globally, including 14,469 people in Australia, were reached through quality education programs.
  • Health: 47 million people, including 139 people in Australia, were reached through our healthcare and nutrition programming.
  • Protection: We provided family support services to more than 4,000 Australians and reached children in crisis across the Pacific, Asia and the Middle East.
  • Emergency response: Through our global network, we reached millions affected by disasters, conflicts and climate events, helping them recover and rebuild their futures.

You can see all Save the Children donations explained in our Annual Report. We are committed to transparency and accountability at every level, so you can see the real, shared impact of your generosity.

Why pooled donations are more powerful

Every gift from the Australian public contributes to a pooled funding charity model that enables us to act fast, scale our work, and reach children wherever the need is greatest. Pooled funding allows us to deploy resources strategically: to respond to emergencies in Gaza or Myanmar, to deliver early learning programs in remote Australian communities, or to support climate resilience in the Pacific.

When many people give together, they donate for greater impact. It’s this collective power that helps us build sustainable, child-centred systems of support rather than temporary fixes. How we ensure every child is seen, heard and supported

Our child-centred humanitarian response means that children’s voices guide everything we do. We advocate for their rights at every level, from helping youth climate leaders in the Pacific speak at international forums, to standing up for children’s rights all around the world.

By embedding children’s perspectives into our programs, we ensure that change is locally led, inclusive, and lasting.

Donate today to support our community impact

Your donation doesn’t stop with one child. It impacts families, schools and communities by building stronger systems that protect every child’s right to safety, education and opportunity.

By making a donation to Save the Children, you’re part of an ethical giving community impact movement that invests in the bigger picture. Together, we can change the story for children everywhere.
