A Christmas tradition with a merry twist

25 November 2022, Impact of Our Work

Find your “I can’t believe I found this in an op shop” moment

Our op shops are open and ready to make your holiday shopping a breeze this year!

Save the Children retail stores around the country are full to the brim with fantastic items for this festive season. From quality clothes and homewares, to electrical goods, books and toys, there are plenty of unique treasures to discover for you and your loved ones.

There’s a wide variety of fantastic items available including books and homewares.

Spread the joy

This Christmas and holiday period is a great time to think about buying presents from your local op shop. Save the Children’s op shops are carefully curated to offer high quality items. This includes useful items for all ages, like clothing, kitchen appliances and those “I can’t believe I found this in an op shop” gems, as well as excellent gifts for children and families, such as toys, play pens and strollers.

There are three great reasons to buy from a Save the Children op shop:

1. You’ll find great items at a budget price

Shopping at our wide range of retail stores means you can find high quality gifts, without the high-end price tags. We only accept items in great condition and rigorously check our stock for quality assurance. This allows you to get more of the great gifts you want for the people you love, without worrying about the heavy holiday hit to your wallet.

2. You’ll make a difference in the lives of children

When you purchase items at our op shops you also get the satisfaction of contributing to the lives of children in Australia and around the world. All profits from the op shops go straight back to support our programs which ensure kids are healthy, educated and protected from harm.

3. You’ll be helping the environment

Choosing to shop for gifts at our op shops will reduce the amount of pollution created this holiday period. Second-hand purchasing supports a circular economy that minimises pollution from manufacturing and supply chains. Buying recycled presents is the perfect way to start a new sustainable holiday tradition that supports children and is easy on the wallet!

Our friendly team of volunteers are here to help you find that perfect op shop gift.

Gift the gift that keeps on gifting!

What do you buy the person who has everything? Why, a gift card of course! A Save the Children Op Shop Gift Card is the perfect choice for that special someone in your life who loves to shop.

You can put any amount you’d like on the card – from that quick $10 gift for a Christmas stocking, or bigger amounts for the person who needs a whole new wardrobe. The choice is yours.

No matter the occasion, an Op Shop Gift Card is the perfect present for anyone who loves to hunt down bargains and support children in need.

We want your pre-loved items!

We're still welcoming donations! Those items in your home that are just taking up space could be used to support our work with children. If you have quality goods in a condition that we can re-sell, please consider donating them to our op shops this holiday period. All proceeds go towards improving the lives of children in Australia and around the world.

We want any high-quality clothing, homewares, books, records, puzzles and more. Some of our stores also accept furniture, whitegoods, rugs and larger electrical items like TVs. Ensure they are washed, clean and ready for the shop floor.

Check with your local store what they can accept for resale before you head over, and please only donate during trading hours listed. For odds and ends like spare socks, fabric off-cuts and sewing scraps, you can book a collection with our recycling partner UPPAREL so that clothing waste is reduced.

We can’t wait to see you!
